Privacy Notice

What this notice covers

This notice explains what happens to personal information you give us through this website — in practice, the enquiry form on our Contact page.

If you become a client, the handling of your matter file is covered separately by the privacy information in your engagement letter, which is more detailed than this notice. Please ask us if you would like a copy.

What we collect through this website

If you complete our enquiry form we collect:

  • your name;
  • your email address;
  • your telephone number, if you choose to give one;
  • the content of your message;
  • the date and time, and the IP address the enquiry came from — used only to prevent misuse of the form.

The contact page also runs a spam check (see below), which processes your IP address and some technical signals from your browser in order to tell a person from an automated script.

Otherwise that is all. This website has no accounts, no logins and no tracking. If you read the site without visiting the contact page, we collect nothing about you at all.

Please do not send us sensitive details through the form

The enquiry form is for initial contact only. Because enquiries to a solicitor can touch on health, family circumstances or alleged offences, we ask you not to include sensitive detail in it — tell us briefly what area you need help with, and we will arrange a proper conversation. If you do send sensitive information, we use it only to respond to you and to establish or defend legal rights.

Sending us an enquiry does not create a solicitor–client relationship, and does not by itself mean we are acting for you.

Why we use it, and our lawful basis

We use these details for one purpose: to answer your enquiry.

  • Where you are asking us to act for you, our lawful basis is that the processing is necessary to take steps at your request before entering into a contract (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(b)).
  • For a general enquiry, our lawful basis is our legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) — namely responding to someone who has contacted us. We consider this obvious and expected, and it involves no more information than is needed to reply.

We do not use your details for marketing, and we will not add you to a mailing list. There is no automated decision-making or profiling.

Who else handles it

We do not sell or share your information for marketing. Two suppliers process it on our behalf, under contract and only on our instructions:

  • 20i Limited (United Kingdom) — hosts this website.
  • SMTP2GO — delivers the enquiry email from this website to our mailbox, so your name, contact details and message pass through their service in order to reach us. Our account is configured to use their EU region, meaning these emails are processed in the European Economic Area. SMTP2GO is a New Zealand company.
  • Cloudflare — provides the spam check on our contact page (Cloudflare Turnstile). It runs only on that page, and Cloudflare receives your IP address and technical signals from your browser in order to perform the check. It does not receive the contents of your enquiry.

We may also have to disclose information where the law or our regulator requires it. Beyond that, your details go no further.

Information leaving the UK

Our website hosting is in the United Kingdom. Enquiry emails are processed in the European Economic Area, and SMTP2GO is based in New Zealand. Both the EEA and New Zealand are recognised by the UK as providing an adequate level of data protection, so no additional safeguards are needed for those.

Cloudflare, which provides the spam check, is a United States company. Transfers to Cloudflare are covered by its certification under the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, with the International Data Transfer Addendum to the standard contractual clauses as a fallback should that certification cease to apply.

If an enquiry fails to send

If the website cannot deliver an enquiry, it records only the reason and the time it happened, so we can fix the fault. No part of your name, contact details or message is written to that record.

How long do we retain your data for?

We retain enquiry data for as long as necessary to respond to and manage your enquiry, and for a reasonable period thereafter in case of follow-up.

Where an enquiry becomes a matter we act on, the information forms part of that matter file and is retained under our file retention policy, which is set out in the privacy information in your engagement letter.

Cookies and tracking

We use no analytics, no advertising tags and no social media embeds anywhere on this website, and we do not track you between pages or between visits.

Every page except the contact page sets no cookies at all and runs no JavaScript.

The contact page loads Cloudflare Turnstile, the spam check on our enquiry form. It runs JavaScript and sets short-lived cookies in order to work. These are used solely to distinguish people from automated scripts — they do not build a profile of you and are not used to track you across other websites. Because the check is strictly necessary to protect the form from abuse, we do not have to ask your permission for it, which is why you are not shown a cookie banner.

Every page loads its typeface from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests a font file from Google and Google will see your IP address in doing so. Nothing else is requested from any third party.

Your rights

You have the right to ask us to give you a copy of the information we hold about you, to correct it if it is wrong, to delete it, to restrict how we use it, and to object to our using it. Where we rely on legitimate interests, you can object at any time.

To exercise any of these, email us at info@jeblaw.co.uk, call 0191 514 5888, or write to us at the address above, marking your letter for the attention of the director responsible for data protection. We will respond within one month.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or by calling 0303 123 1113.

Complaints about our legal service, rather than about your information, are covered by our Complaints Procedure.

Changes to this notice

If we change how we handle information collected through this website, we will update this page. This notice was last reviewed on 2026-09-07.
